Welcome to the Corky's Wine website. The purpose of this website is to offer for sale, in mixed-case lots, some the magnificent Rhône, Bordeaux and Australian red wines assembled over the past 10 years by an obsessive collector. Like many, he has bought more enthusiastically than the consumption rate could justify. Wine collections are bulky and administratively complex, and it is now apparent that a little rationalisation is required if he is to remain on continuing good terms with his family. Why, though, is the collection being sold in this way? It would, after all, be much simpler to contact a broker or auction house and dispose of the collection as a single lot. The reason is the personal affection that is felt for the wines themselves, those who have made them, and those who have sold them. These wines need to go to ‘good homes'. To be bought, in other words, by those who would cherish them and enjoy them in the way, he believes, their producers intended: with food and friends, for personal pleasure and to learn more about terroir and the craft of great wine creation. It is for this reason that the wines will be packed, sold and dispatched as carefully mixed cases. They will offer an outstanding opportunity for genuine wine lovers to acquire rare and much-sought-after bottles in smaller lots than are usually commercially available. This particularly applies to the wines of the Rhône valley, the centrepiece of the collection. These mixed cases will be prepared on a regional basis, reflecting the strengths of the collection as a whole. Some will be ‘horizontal' (in other words a collection of wines of a single vintage from different producers); others will be ‘vertical' (in other words a collection of different vintages from a single producer). Most will be in 6-bottle lots, though some 12-bottle lots will also be assembled. Corky's Wine has been given sole responsibility to offer the wines for sale and the website has commissioned brief introductions to the different sections of the collection from a friend, Andrew Jefford, Decanter columnist and author of The New France (see www.andrewjefford.com ). Parker points are cited for all wines where such scores exist. Most of the wines rate a score of 90 or more, over 200 being in the range of 95-100 with at least 20 wines in the collection having a `perfect' Parker score. This initial offering constitutes less than 10% of the collection as a whole. We are beginning with a small initial offering to gauge interest. If the scheme proves successful, the entire collection will eventually be offered in this way. This includes a stunning range of no fewer than 200 different Chateâuneuf du Pape wines, including many of the most sought-after special cuvées; 70 wines from Hermitage, including Chave, Jaboulet's La Chapelle and Chapoutier sélections parcellaires; 40 wines from Côte Rôtie, including the celebrated Guigal ‘La-La' wines; 140 red Bordeaux wines from 1982 onwards, though principally from 2000 to 2006; and 80 Australian wines from small, sought-after growers including Clarendon Hills, Mitolo, Noon, Torbreck and Kilakanoon, as well as three vintages of Penfold's Grange and one of Henschke's Hill of Grace. Feel free to contact us to express your interest in any purchase in these areas, even if you do not wish to purchase wines from the initial offering. We sell in 6 bottle cases from one case upwards. Minimal delivery charges apply. We look forward to speaking to you soon. Corky's Wine |
